JOE W. BASINGER
1906 - 1997


Lincoln County pioneer Joe W. Basinger of McLoud died Wednesday in a McAlester living center. He was 91.
He was born April 23, 1906, in Montague County, Texas, to Ed and Maggie Basinger. The family moved to Lincoln County in a covered wagon when he was 11 and he had lived in the McLoud area most of his life.
Mr. Basinger married Della Maude Brown on July 8, 1925, and later married Nettie Large on February 13, 1979.
He was a farmer, a grocery store manager and a fiddler. He was active with McLoud Senior Citizens.
Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Murriel and Pat Brown of McLoud, Lloyd and Gloria Basinger of McAlester, Lonnie and Ann Basinger of Derby, Kansas and Jimmy Leo Basinger of Everett, Washington, daughters and sons-in-law, June and Elmer Lemons of Booneville, California, Keitha and Dean McAdoo of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey and brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Julia Basinger of Stroud; sister-in-law, Margaret Basinger of McLoud; fifteen grandchildren, twenty four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were both wives, two brothers, four sisters and his parents.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, McLoud, with the Rev. Cyndy Schillinger officiating.
Burial will be in Jamison Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
