Submitted by: Jo Aguirre

Gregory Leon Hunt was born, February 21, 1960 in Witchita, Kansas to parents Francis and Hazel Hunt, both deceased. The family moved to Choctaw, Oklahoma, before he turned one. He was into mischief and spoiled as he was the youngest child with two brothers, John and Ron (Trish) Hunt and three sisters, Linda (Marty) Martinez, Mary (David) Green and Carol (Doug) Pruitt, all older than him.

He was raised on a large acreage in Choctaw where the family had a large garden which he was helping to hoe the garden by the age of five. He and his brothers and Carol took turns milking the milk cows along with their Dad. All in the family broke green beans and shucked corn. Summers were spent picking blackberries.

He was a daredevil, even at a young age, he followed too close to the family horse and got kicked in the mouth while only a toddler.

He attended Choctaw Schools, graduating in 1978. He took carpentry in school which led to his career at MD Building Products as a carpenter custodian. He lived at home until he married and moved away. He and his wife Starla had one son, Brian Joseph Hunt.

Shortly after Brian Joseph was born, Greg and Starla divorced and he moved to the family farm in Wellston (Carney), Oklahoma area, where he would live for the rest of his life.

There he was close to nature, raising cattle and chickens and a garden. Many hours on the farm, he spent mowing pastures. He made sure the ponds were stocked with fish. He shared his vegetables, and fresh eggs with his co-workers. He was especially proud of his Boston Terrier and other dogs.

He contracted MS a few years ago, and he was forced to give up his cattle and unable to do many things that he loved.

He loved his job at MD and all people there were close to his heart. He often told of loving his job and that he wanted to work there forever. He continued to work until last week when he became ill. He never recovered and passed away August 3rd.

He gave his life to Christ at a young age and was baptized in Nicoma Park Christian Church, where the family attended for many years.

He will be missed by many, especially his MD family. He leaves behind his son, three grandchildren, brothers, sisters, a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and an Uncle and Aunt.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 7, 2020 at 10:30 A.M. at Carney Cemetery in Carney, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2020 from 12:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the First Southern Baptist Church in Guthrie (202 E. Noble Ave., Guthrie, Oklahoma 73044).

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the OMRF Multiple Sclerosis (825 NE 13th Street, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73104).
