MELBA DODRILL

August 13, 1938 - May 2, 2017)

Melba Faye Dodrill, longtime Cushing resident, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at West Haven Nursing Home surrounded by family at the age of 78.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017 at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home chapel with Chaplain Lance Keeling officiating. Interment will follow at Carney Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Melba was born on August 13, 1938 to Nice and Gladys (Stewart) Gazaway in Tryon, OK. She grew up in the Tryon area and graduated from Tryon High School in 1956. After high school, Melba moved to Wichita to work. After working in Wichita, Melba moved to Sand Springs and started work for Hissom Memorial Center until its closing. She worked as a nurse’s aide helping children. Helping others was one of her true joys in life.

On May 19, 1984, Melba married the love of her life, Richard Dodrill, and made sure to keep him in line. She and Richard spent many years together sharing their joys. They were both part of the Rock and Mineral Club in Tulsa and Stillwater. Melba also enjoyed bargain hunting and baking cookies. She passed on her love for bargain hunting to her grandchildren. Melba was an active member in the Church of God in Cushing and enjoyed singing in the choir.

Melba was a caring and generous woman, who would put other’s needs in front of her own. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Melba is survived by her husband of 33 years, Richard Dodrill; one daughter, Debora Dodrill; four grandchildren, Josh Baker and wife, Jerica, Katy Lollis and husband, Spencer, Charles Andrew and wife, Jamie, and Miles Plymale; four great grandchildren, Isaac, Bryson, Britain, and Braden. Melba is also survived by one nephew, Wayne Gazaway.

Melba is preceded in death by her parents, Nice and Gladys (Stewart) Gazaway, one brother, Leonard Gazaway, and one daughter, Dora Baker.
