Hiram E. Matts

Hiram E. Matts died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D.A. Wass in Union Township on January 19, 1918, being 73 years, 6 months, and 10 days old. He was born in the state of Indiana and was married to Hannah Gilliam. To this union was born ten children, four girls and six boys, six children survive him. They are Emma Taylor of Los Angeles California; Laura Redman of Stillwater Oklahoma; William Matts of Tulsa Oklahoma; Flemming of New Mexico; Lawrence of Drumright; and Mrs. Ida Wass of Chandler. His wife died in 1902, since which he has lived with his daughter Mrs. Wass on the old home place. Funeral services were held from the home at 11 a.m. Sunday by Elder Cansler of Chandler. Internment was made in Bethel Cemetery. Mr. Matts was an esteemed citizen. The family has the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.
