Gayle Smedley, 77, of Poteau died Tuesday, July 3, 2012, in Poteau.

Gayle was born Feb. 22, 1935, in Heavener to Carl and Florence (Anderson) Johnston. Gayle was a beautician and owner of Bob Smedley Chevrolet-Oldsmobile, Poteau, for 40-plus years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Poteau. Gayle moved to Poteau at an early age. She graduated from Poteau High School in 1952 and went to Poteau Community College of Business and she graduated in 1953. She married Bob Smedley and had son Robert Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Florence (Anderson) Johnston; husband, Bob Smedley and son, Robert Jr.

She is survived by her only sister, Beverly Mazikowski and husband, Dennis, of Poteau; special friends, Pam and Clay Bennett; numerous cousins and relatives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Leroy Billy and Rev. Jim Cook officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery . Pallbearers will be Matt Bennett, Tommy Robertson, Lane Robertson, Nathan Fox, David Akins , and Ron Hamilton.

The family will visit with friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Evans and Miller Funeral Home.

Contributions may be made to the Gideons International by calling the funeral home, or to the Poteau Valley Humane Society.
