Ellis Wayne Short, 67, of Poteau, passed away Sept. 2, 2009, in Poteau.

He was born July 26, 1942, in Ranger, Texas. He was an architectural designer and attended Church of God 7th Day in Wister. As a designer he designed many homes and offices in Tulsa, Poteau and around the country before retiring in 2007. He founded New Life Ministries and New Life Publications and wrote several booklets, treatises and tracts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Thurman Short and Alma Lucille (Payne) Short, and a daughter, Elizabeth Montgomery.

He is survived by his wife, Janet (Troxell) Short of the home; sons Clifford A. Short of Tahlequah and William P. Short of Tulsa; daughters, Rebecca V. Wright and Sharla Mabe, both of Tahlequah; a step-daughter and son-in-law Laura and Patrick Ng; sisters Belinda Filkins of Connecticut and Fayla Gooch of Oklahoma City; a brother Stanley A. Short of Glenpool; 22 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; numerous other relatives, friends and loved ones.

Funeral services were held Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. at Church of God 7th Day, Wister, with Elder Chip Hinds officiating. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau. Pallbearers were hank Wright, Jesse Merchant, Richard Baker, Keith Bynum, Axel Valle and Scot Knight. Honorary pallbearers were Lee Thompson, Chuck Evans and Billy Woodral.
