Helen Harriet [Hodgkinson] Laughlin
July 4, 1913 - March 7, 2006
Helen Harriet Laughlin was born in Loyal, Oklahoma on the 4th of July, 1913 to Elmer and Stella Hodgkinson.
In 1932 she married Samuel G. Laughlin and they moved to Northern California in 1936. They had two children, Patricia Hendrix of Bakersfield and Samuel G. Laughlin, Jr. of Vacaville.
She is survived by her children, Patricia, husband, Don; and son, Sam Laughlin; three grandchildren, Thomas Hendrix, wife, Nancy, Kay Sauer, husband, Steve and Tabitha Villegas, husband, Larry. She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren, Janell, Jeff, Sam, Scott and Courtney who all called her ÒGreatÓ for short, which she adored.
Helen lived a long and interesting life making many friends along the way. She and her husband began their life in California living first in remote areas of the Sierra Nevada mountains and later in many foreign countries where her husbandÕs work took them. She worked as a volunteer ÒGrey ladyÓ in hospitals, the American Red Cross and later worked for Kaiser Permanente in Walnut Creek, California. She and her husband also were small business owners after his retirement. Helen was widowed in 1975.
Helen was a vivacious person who was especially proud of her American Indian heritage. She moved from her retirement community in Mission Viejo 4 years ago to Bakersfield. She lived in Glenwood Gardens Nursing Facility and was serving as President of the Residents Association.
Helen was a warm and loving Mother, Grandmother and Friend and will be greatly missed.
