Enid, OK — The funeral for Orville H. Silver, 89, of Hennessey, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2008, at 132 Bible Church. L. D. Choate will officiate. Burial will be in Lyon Valley Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home. 

He was born Jan. 31, 1919, in Mayfield to Thomas Hanson and Ida May Wilson Silver and died Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at his home. He attended school at Bula, then served in the Army in World War II and earned three battle zone stars. He married Gladys Fern Gritz Nov. 1, 1946, in Hennessey. He owned and operated Silver Shoe Service in Hennessey from 1945 to 2000. He also drove a school bus and was a substitute rural mail carrier. He was a member of 132 Bible Church, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was chosen grand marshal of the Pat Hennessey Day parade in 2005.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys of the home; one son, Tom Silver of Enid; three daughters, Betty Thele of Whitesboro, Texas, Rose Shriver of Enid and Eva Moore of Waukomis; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home, P. O. Box 125, Hennessey, OK 73742, to American Legion or American Diabetes Association.
