The graveside service for Jim D. Hoskins, 71, of Loyal, will be 9:30 a.m. today, Oct. 14, 2009, in Kingfisher Cemetery. A memorial service will be 10:45 a.m. at Loyal Evangelical Church, Kingfisher. Leon Seaton and the Rev. Bob Barr will officiate. Arrangements are by Sanders Funeral Service Inc., Kingfisher.
He was born Sept. 7, 1938, in Okeene to Kenneth and LaVerne Hoskins and died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009. He graduated from Loyal High School and attended college at Southwestern, Cental State University of Edmond, Oklahoma State University and University of Oklahoma. He married Merlan J. Wehrenberg in August 1958 in Loyal. He worked for the city of Edmond as firefighter and later became battalion chief, retiring in 1989 after 23 years. He served as a professional scuba diver and built many homes in Edmond. He also taught at Midwest City Vo-tech Center.
After moving to Cashion, he served three years on the board of the town of Cashion. He was a member of Loyal Lions Club and Oklahoma State Firefighter Assoc.
Surviving are his wife, Merlan; one son, Todd W. Hoskins of Kingfisher; one daughter, Cheri L. Velasco of Loyal; one brother, Terry Hoskins of Edmond; two sisters, Jane Hill of Edmond and Charlotte Strahan of Texas; and five grandchildren.
