The funeral for Donald L. Norris, 79, Oklahoma City, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Hennessey. The Rev. Robyn Thompson-Goggs will officiate.

Burial will follow in Hennessey Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.

He was born Jan. 16, 1926, at Lacey to I. L. "Peck" and Minnie Goodpas-ture Norris and died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at Deaconess Hospital, Oklahoma City.
He graduated from Hennessey High School and attended Phillips University, Enid. At age 17 he enlisted in the Army and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He married Verla Grim on Nov. 23, 1949, in Hennessey.
He worked for the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Insurance Company in Oklahoma City for 37 years and was manager of the crop hail and arson divisions. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hennessey. He bred Brittany bird dogs and was Oklahoma Sportsman of the Year in 1969. He was a member of the Northern and Southern Oklahoma Brittany Clubs, and was a trainer.

Surviving are his wife, Verla, of the home; three daughters, Frosty Wilson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Sandy Fracchia of Longmont, Colo.; Wendy Norris of San Antonio; one son, Jim Norris of Tulsa; four sisters, Mildred Mesis of Enid, Helen LaPort and Betty Gritz, both of Hennessey; Shirley O'Connor of Dover, Del.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two infant brothers.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the American Heart Association.

A graveside service for Verla Ruth Norris, 91 will be at 3:00 pm Friday January 8, 2021 at the Hennessey Cemetery Pavilion under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.

Verla was born February 26, 1929 at Aline, OK to Forest E. and Ruby A. Grim and died January 6, 2021 at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City.

Verla graduated from Hennessey High School in 1947. She was a member of the Rainbow Girls, 4-H Club, Home Ec Club, Glee Club, the Marching Band, and was a Yell Leader and Football Homecoming Queen. She was also a choir member of the First United Methodist Church. More recently, Verla was an active beloved member in the Sisters on the Fly and loved literature, history and travel. On November 23, 1949 she married the love of her life Donald Lee Norris, and together they had four beautiful children.
 

She is survived by her three daughters; Frosty Wilson of Idaho Falls, ID, Sandra Fracchia and husband Ron of Sedalia MO, Wendy Norris of Oklahoma City, one son Jim Norris and wife Julie of Tulsa, and six grandchildren; Forest Wilson, Colter Wilson, Amy Mathew, Austin Fracchia, Kyle Norris and Kaylee Norris, and four great grandchildren; Macy Mathew, Rylie Mathew, Sage Mathew and Talon Mathew.

Verla was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald Norris, two brothers Dean and Cuyler Grim and one sister Laurie Wells.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association in her name with the funeral home serving as custodian of the fund.
