Lora Luella (Burdg) Knox

ENID, Okla. — Lora L. Knox, 97, passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center. She was born April 30, 1915, to Caskie and Fannie (Thomas) Burdg, east of Hennessey, Okla.

She attended both Lone Star and Hennessey schools.

Lora married Calvin Knox in March 1946, and together owned and operated Knox Apple Orchard until they retired and moved to Enid in 1964.  

Lora loved to work in her garden, was an avid collector of antiques and made several beautiful velvet crazy quilts, many of which were blue ribbon winners in the Garfield County Fair.

She was also an excellent cook, and many of her nieces and nephews loved spending summers at “Aunt Lora’s” place in Hennessey.  

Lora is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Terry Harwood; her favorite grandson, Steven Harwood; sister-in-law, Vera Lou Burdg, all of Enid, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Calvin; brothers, Vernon, Clarence and Harvey; sister, Marie; and stepdaughter, Betty Knox.  

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. today, Nov. 21, 2012, at Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Sheila Combs-Francis officiating. Interment will follow in Hennessey Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Society with the funeral home acting as custodian of the funds.
