Alvin Leroy Spore, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at his home. He was 77.

Alvin was born July 25, 1932 in Marland, Oklahoma, the son of Levi Ray Spore and Flossie Mae Levings Spore. He attended the Ponca City Public Schools and was a graduate of Ponca City High School. Alvin served his country in the Oklahoma National Guard and the United States Army, having served tours of duty in Japan and Korea. He was honorably discharge from the Army on June 9, 1952. He was married to Cleta Mae French on April 3, 1956 in Arkansas City, Kansas and to this union was born four children.

Alvin was employed with the Ponca City Fire Department for 24 years and was the Fire Chief the last two years prior to his retirement from the department in the early 1990s. He was then employed 10 years with Conoco where he worked in the Fire and Safety Division. He was a member of the V.F.W. Alvin loved to play golf, bowl and fish, and always enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Cleta, of the home three daughters, Barbara Evans and husband, David, Sharon Leonetti, and Terri James and husband, Kenny, all of Ponca City four grandchildren, Mark Evans, Melissa Simpson and husband, Brent, Kailee James and Caleb James two great grandchildren, Madison Simpson and Lauren Simpson three brothers, Wayne Spore and wife, Juanita, of Kansas, Bobby Spore, Ponca City, and Donald Ray Spore and wife, Emily, of Ponca City numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents one son, Larry Dean Spore his soninlaw, Greg Leonetti one brother, Jett Simpson three sisters, Beulah Storto, Dorothy Morrison and LaVera Johns two nephews, Alvin Johns and Phillip Spore.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2010 at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Paul Krueger, pastor of Woodlands Christian Church presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
