Robert "Bob" Wayne Hazen
1926 - 2010




Robert W. Hazen passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Ponca City Medical Center after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 83.
There will be no service at this time. The cremation is under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.
Born March 5, 1926, to J.W. and Beulah (Patterson) Hazen, he was a lifelong Ponca City resident.
While in high school, he worked at Darr Flight Training School. After graduation, he followed his older brothers, Bill and Jim, into military service.
He served with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II, and then returned to Ponca City after the war, eventually beginning a long career in the oil industry by taking a job with Cities Service. He worked various jobs, including catalytic cracker operator on the east plant of what beame Conoco. He retired from there in 1991.
After retirement, he continued to serve as an usher at Northeast Baptist Church and enjoyed working on his lawn, tending to his garden, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Irene of the home; his daughter, Bobbye Reusser and husband Jim of Ponca City; and stepson, Don Gammill and wife Becky of Edmond. Also, six sisters, Helen Bishop, Ruth White, Pat Meek, Gerry Correll, Frances Townley, all of Ponca City, and Shirley Awalt of Elk Grove, Calif.; his brother, Ray Hazen of Ponca City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Bill and Jim Hazen; their parents; sister, Bonnie Bloxsom; and his son, Jerry Hazen.
