Michael Joe "Mike" Grimes, age 71, life long resident of Ponca City, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2018 in Broken Arrow, OK.

A ceremony to gratefully remember his life will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, June 25, 2018 at the Sunset Baptist Church with Reverend Matt Click officiating. Following the ceremony, Mike will be laid to rest next to his wife at Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mike was born on November 2, 1946 to Otis Elmo Grimes and Bertha I. Cron Grimes in Ponca City, OK. He was raised in Ponca City, graduating from Ponca City High School in 1965. Following high school, Mike became a carpenter, eventually working for the family business with his father framing many area homes for Grimes Construction. On January 28, 1971, he was married to Sharon Reed. They celebrated 42 years of marriage before her passing in 2013. Their marriage bore two sons. Mike was overjoyed to have children. Remaining active in their lives was important to Mike which included coaching their football and baseball teams. When he became a grandfather, Mike became all the more devoted and enamored with his grandchildren. He doted on them and made sure they knew they were special in his eyes. Mike was also a man of strong faith and morals. Sunset Baptist Church was his church home, but it wasn't just a place he went to on Sundays. His faith was evidenced by his life. Interactions he had with others drew them to him with his jovial, kind, considerate, compassionate presence. Mike will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved him.

Survivors include his cherished sons: Kevin Grimes and wife Erin of Jenks, OK and Darin Grimes and wife Mandi of Ponca City, dear sister: Kathy Hopkins and husband Jim of Ponca City, adored grandchildren: Maddox Michael Grimes, Harlow Louise Grimes and Hayli Rae Grimes as well as many cousins and dear friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife Sharon, parents, and sister Diana Horton.
