Billy “Papa” Dean Coddington celebrated his homecoming on Friday, July 29th, 2016. Bill was born on Sept. 7, 1938 to David I. and Florence M. Wrench Coddington in Salina, Kansas. In 1956, after finishing school in Salina, he joined the Navy. He attended basic training in Great Lakes, Illinois, then served two years aboard the USS Yorktown CV-10. Back on dry land he transferred to North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego, California to COMNAVAIRPAC. He was married in 1958 and was blessed with four girls, Jody Coddington and John Krey, Jan Cotton, Tracy Poland and Steve and Terri Gardinier and Joe.

Bill met the love of his life Judith Ann and they married in 1971. Judy had four children, Lisa Hooker and Rodney, Rick Hancock and Kim, Rusty Hancock and Beth and Miki Friedman and Scott. His blessings continued with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bill took great pleasure in attending and following all their activities which was a full time job! He loved his grandkids and they adored him. He was an avid OSU fan and enjoyed watching wrestling, football and basketball, “GO POKES”!! Bill loved to golf and travel. He shared this love with a very special group of friends. They often took trips to golf and the women would shop. The Cherokee Strip golf tournament was a yearly highlight.

Bill was a truck driver for Conoco Oil and then became the owner of the “Big O” on South Avenue and purchased the Rusty Barrell Supper Club in June, 1976. He was a police officer in Fillmore, California and had a heart for police officers. To show his appreciation for their service he supported and would often host the Oklahoma Highway Patrolmen at the Rusty Barrell. Bill loved Ponca City and is grateful for the support of the community which has allowed him to have his business for 40 years. The restaurant will stay in the family operated by his son Rick Hancock.

He is survived by one sister, Josephine Miller of Salina, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill shared the last few years with his fiancée, Melody Isbell.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Judy Coddington, his parents, four brothers and one sister.

A celebration of life service will be held at Friday, August 5, 2016 at 2 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Don Doe of Phoenix, Arizona, a special family friend. The family will greet friends at Trout Funeral Home on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.

Judith "Judy" Ann Coddington celebrated her homecoming January 30, 2011. Judy was born on December 1, 1938 to Francis and Cleta (Hickman) Young in Ponca City, Okla. She was raised in Ponca City where she graduated from Ponca City High School in 1956. She loved to spend time at the lake water-skiing and on many occasions she would forgo lunch to slalom ski and then return to school. She was married in September 1956 and had four children, Lisa, Rick, Rusty and Miki. She worked at Woodlands Elementary School as a teacher’s aide and loved to bowl. She was married to Billy D. Coddington on June 10, 1971. Bill and Judy are members of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and was also on the Bereavement Committee. Judy worked at Conoco in the Graphic Arts department for 25 years where she developed many life long friends. In 1976 Bill and Judy bought the Rusty Barrell Supper Club, known as the “Best Little Steak House in Oklahoma” and still own it to this day.

She loved traveling with her friends and while the girls shopped the guys were golfing. She belonged to the Wall Street Investment Club and spent one Monday night a month with a special group of ladies playing bridge. Bill and Judy enjoy dancing and were involved in the Cherokee Strip Golf Tournament at the Ponca City Country Club, where they are members. Judy and Bill are season ticket holders to many of the sporting activities at OSU and travel to the Big 12 Championship each year. They enjoy taking their two grandchildren that attend OSU to dinner while in Stillwater. She found tremendous joy in attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities most of which she had to travel to Texas. She never once thought a minute about the 4 to 5 hour drive to get there. She is worshiped and adored by her grandchildren and great grandchildren who call her JuJu.

All that met Judy loved her and her happiness came from making others happy. Everyone loved her hugs and wanted her to be their JuJu too. She showed unconditional love and it was the greatest gift she gave her family.

She is survived by her husband of forty years, Bill Coddington; children, Lisa Hooker and Rodney of Hurst, TX, Rick Hancock and Kim of Wichita, KS, Rusty Hancock and Beth of Arlington, TX, Miki Friedman and Scott of Colleyville, TX; grandchildren, Kaleb Lynes and Darenda, Zach Lynes, Colt Lynes, Aubrie Hancock, Austin Hancock, Mackenzie Friedman, Brooks Friedman, Christine Piersall; great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Brody Lynes, Madison Prince and Rebecca Qualls; nephew, Doug Young. Four stepdaughters, Jody Coddington, Jan Cotton, Tracy Poland and Steve, Terri Gardinier and Joe, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cleta Nieman , Francis Young and siblings Jerry Young, Lee Young and her niece Jeri Lynn Young.

Pallbearers are her grandsons: Kaleb Lynes, Zach Lynes, Colt Lynes, Austin Hancock and Brooks Friedman. Honorary pallbearers: The 12 Man Golfing Group.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, Feb. 3, at 2PM at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mary Wright, officiating. The family will greet friends at Trout Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
