Joyce Ann ( Johnston) Carel, age 85, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2016.

She was born in Ponca City on February 27, 1931 to Paul Johnston and Hazel (Cooley) Johnston. She graduated from Ponca City High School and attended OSU. Joyce was employed at Conoco and also worked for Area Radiology for 22 years before retiring twice. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; brother Gerald Johnston and her husband of 42 years Alfred “Pete” Carel.

Joyce is survived by her sons Dr. Scott Carel of Oklahoma City and Mark Carel and his wife Diane of Ponca City, their son Josh Carel and his wife Lynette of Yukon and their three beautiful children Daniel of Bangor WA, and twins Hannah and Naomi of Yukon. Joyce is also survived by her beloved companion of years, Muffin.

Joyce was an adorably fashionable lady who was caring, thoughtful and kind. With her wonderful witty personality, people were always drawn to her throughout her life. Her love of gardening was well known as was her dislike of dead leaves and acorns. Into her 80’s, she still mowed her lawn twice a week. Her lawn and gardens rivaled anything in House and Garden magazine. No known holiday could be ignored and required decorations both inside and outside her home.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the First United Methodist Church or Hospice of North Central Oklahoma. Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 10:30 am with Reverend Mike Smith officiating. A private grave site service to be held later.
