James Vance Bates, former Ponca City resident, died Monday evening, February 13, 2006 at his home in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was 49 years of age. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 16, 2006 at St. Luke’s Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. David Frees, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Trout Funeral Home.

Vance was born on December 29, 1956 in Bartlesville to James Robert and Delores M. (Hoskins) Bates. Vance was raised in Ponca City and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1975 as Class President. He attended one year at the University of Oklahoma and three years at Oklahoma State University. He received his master’s degree at the University of Texas in Austin. He worked as a commercial real estate appraiser while living in Arkansas. He enjoyed dogs and was a member of the Baptist Church.

He is survived by: three children, son Jarrett Bates, daughter Corrie Bates, and son Jackson Bates, all of Fayetteville; his parents, James and Delores Bates of Ponca City; 3 uncles, 1 aunt, and many friends.

Casket bearers will be Cory Bowker, Tom Bates, Phil Bates, Richard Keathly, Keith Lawrence, Kevin Bates.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Church of the Nazarene, 1715 E. Prospect, Ponca City, Oklahoma, 74604.
