Audrey Wood
June 11, 1952 - June 19, 2023
Audrey D. Wood was born June 11, 1952 in Wichita, Kansas to Leo George Erne and Beverly Ann Stewart. She moved around a bit growing up and at 15 years old, ended in Winfield, Kansas living with her Grannie (Velma), where she met Lawton in early 1968 during his Senior year of High School. He was working at the grocery store by where Grannie lived. On May 23, 1968 he proposed. They were married November 30, 1968 and Lawton left for Vietnam shortly after. Audrey moved in with Lawton's parents and obtained her GED. When Lawton received his Honorable Discharge from the Navy on September 18th, 1974, they had 2 young children. In April 1976, Lawton and Audrey were baptized as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was a life-changing step in their lives as they went on to have 8 more children, and Christ became the focus for their lives. Her love for the gospel made her the kind of woman she was. Audrey encouraged others to reach out and to love their families. She was one of the kindest people and the most willing to serve. After joining the church, the other ladies taught her to sew and do genealogy. Those two things became her biggest passions, after her family. She was fiercely committed to her family, the living and the dead. Lawton will tell you that she loved him TOO much. A close friend says that her love for Lawton cannot be surpassed. Audrey loved bowling, fishing, skiing, and camping at Beaver Lake with extended family before developing heart problems. One memory of Lawton's is one night Audrey wanted to go fishing after he got off work. They went down to the Kaw Lake Dam and Audrey waded in nearly waist deep. Lawton was getting tired so Audrey said he could just go sleep in the car. She fished until nearly 4am.
The year 2014 brought a time of great fear and a miracle. Audrey went into full heart failure and put on a transplant list knowing that she might not make it another 90 days. Only 30 days later, September 29th, a new heart was available. That miracle gave the family nearly 9 additional years with Audrey. In that time, there were 6 additional grand-children, 3 great-grandchildren, 7 weddings, graduations, birthdays, and other events that she was aware of. She and Lawton lived in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, California, and Puerta La Cruz, Venezuela. They shared 54+ years of marriage together and blessed with 5 sons, and 5 daughters.
Audrey's life will live on with her husband Henry "Lawton" Wood, her children Bobby Wood and his wife Charity (Woodall, OK), Kassi Anderson and her husband Dan (Denton, TX), Shannon George and her husband Denton (Yukon, OK), James Wood and his wife Amanda (Virginia Beach, VA), Christopher Wood and his wife Nashelle (Hayden, ID), Meagan Rushing and her husband Larry (Stillwater, OK), Caleb Wood (Oklahoma City, OK), Autumn Hale and her husband Zach (Oklahoma City, OK), Adrienne Nelson and her husband Justin (Edmond, OK), Larissa Wood (Fort Gibson, OK), 35 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sister Vel-Ann Duarte, brother David Mcleod, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many more.
She is now reunited with her parents, Grannie Great, and her son - Daniel "Bryce" Wood.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2023, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with Steve Dieker officiating, Interment will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
