Naomi Mae Eagle, Ponca City resident, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the Ponca City Medical Center. She was 71.

Naomi was born on February 7, 1938 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Hugh Eagle and Hattie McDonald. She was a member of the Ponca Tribe Blood Clan Thexhida and also a past Ponca Princess. She was a member of the Ponca Indian United Methodist Church for many years. Naomi served in the United States Army and at one time was stationed at the same camp as Elvis. She enjoyed playing classical music on the piano, watching horror movies and talking on the phone. Naomi loved company and going to veterans dances. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Naomi was a great caregiver and she truly enjoyed supporting and sponsoring several children from other countries. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Robert Gonzales, Richard Gonzales, Diane Gonzales, Mary Gonzales, Patty Yellow Horse and Frannie Littlewalker grandchildren, Lindsey Gonzales, Rachel Gonzales, Jamie Bowen and Jennifer Bowen and one great grandchild, Alfreida LeClair.

She is preceded in death by her parents sister, Ruth Eagle and brother, George White Eagle.

An evening prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 7, 2010 at the Ponca Indian United Methodist Church.

Casket bearers will be Galvis White Eagle, Craig Lewis Silver, Clifford LeClair, Elliott Eagle, Archie Eagle, Anson Littlewalker and Leon Hernandez.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2010 at the church with Brother Jimmy White officiating. The traditional noon meal will be held before the funeral service at the church. Burial will follow in the Ponca Tribal Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
