Vesta Rose Downing, age 63 of Miami, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the Cornerstone Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Following the traditional noon feast services will be held at the Ponca Indian Baptist Church with Toby Blackstar officiating. Burial will follow at the Ponca Tribal Cemetery under the direction of the Grace Memorial Chapel.

Vesta Rose Downing was born September 4, 1952 in Miami, Oklahoma to Thomas C. and Eleanor (Whitestar) Downing. She grew up in Miami, Oklahoma and graduated from the Miami High School in 1970. She then graduated from NEO before attended Oklahoma State University. Vesta was on the President's Honor Roll at NEO where she received her Marketing Management Degree. Vesta worked as Manager of the Community Crisis Center (Women's Shelter) in Miami, Oklahoma until 1994. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Miami, Red Hat Society and loved Pow Wow's, cooking, baking and spending time with her family.

Survivors include one daughter Juliana Downing of Miami, Oklahoma; three sisters Jolene and husband Brett Lane of Foyil, Oklahoma, Lois and husband Rick Hoffstatter of Noble, Oklahoma and Eva and husband Strawberry Triece of Welch, Oklahoma; five nephews and one grandpuppy Little Bear.
