| Submitted by: Shirley Harlan |
Dorothy Juanita Bradford Loosley began a new journey beyond this earthly life on Thursday, May 27, 2004. She waged a hard-fought battle against cancer. She was 78.
The funeral will be held at 10a.m. on Tuesday, June 1, at the First Presbyterian Church followed by a graveside memorial at Odd Fellows Cemetery under the direction of the Trout Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Schacher, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will officiate.
Dorothy was known to close friends as "Brad." She was born on Jan. 10, 1926, in Carter Line, Okla., the daughter of Howell Jefferson and Mary Frost Bradford. Dorothy spent most of her youth in Hominy, though her family lived briefly in Blackwell. She graduated from Hominy High School in 1944 and attended college at Oklahoma A&M College from 1944-1948. Dorothy was a member of Pi Beta Phi and was a faithful alumnae until her death. She received her degree in secretarial administration and worked for Stanolind Oil Company in Tulsa following college graduation.
It was at college that she met Edwin C. "Ado" Loosley through mutual friends. Dorothy and Ed were married on July 9, 1949, in Hominy. Their 54-year marriage lasted until Ed's death on July 31, 2003. Two daughters, Mary Jane and Ann live in Tulsa and Oklahoma City respectively.
Dorothy worked various jobs during her life, but the work she loved the most was as a mother and wife. Ed's job with Conoco required the family to move many times, and she has friends in all the places that she lived. She was involved in the 20th Century Club, PEO, delivered Meals on Wheels for many years, was active in several bridge clubs and was involved in Panhellenic and the Pi Phi alumni group.
She was an avid reader all of her life. Dorothy loved to dance with Ado. She was a very good bridge player and an enthusiastic golfer. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved a good joke. Her family will especially miss her special way of telling stories. She and Ed loved traveling. Dorothy was a loyal, thoughtful and caring friend to many; a loving mother, aunt, and grandmother and was always ready with a warm smile. Her friends and family will cherish those characteristics and the many ways she expressed her love.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary Jane Lindaman and Ann Hopkins; a son-in-law, Gary Lindaman; and four grandchildren, Scott Hopkins, Heidi Lindaman Ewing and her husband Preston Ewing, Kacie Hopkins Springer and her husband Dylan Springer and Eric Lindaman. Survivors also include a brother-in-law, Don Loosley and his wife Irene; a sister-in-law, Brenda Loosley; and a brother-in-law, Jim Griffith; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and one son-in-law.
Honorary casket bearers will be Gordon Holland, Gerald Wilson, Jim West, Jack Bowker, Bill Hailey, Preston Ewing and Jay Hoppe.
Casket bearers will be Scott Hopkins, Eric Lindaman, Brad Griffith, William Allen, Dylan Springer and John Lee.
Friends may sign a memorial book at the funeral home, even though the casket will remain closed. The family will be at the home, 1300 Cookson, where they will greet friends on the evening of Monday, May 31.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 N. Union, Suite 103, Ponca City, Okla. 74601, the Ponca City Library or the charity of your choice.
