Pearl Evans, 78, Dies At Hospital
Mrs. Pearl Evans, 78, died Sunday evening at the Ponca City Hospital shortly after being admitted.
In accordance with Mrs. Evans' request, there will be only a graveside service. It is set for 2 p.m. Thursday in Odd Fellows Cemetery with the Rev. Elry Jeffries, associate pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating.
Arrangements are in charge of Grace Memorial Chapel, where friends may call until 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The family will be at the Evans home, 440 South Oak.
Mrs. Evans was born Nov. 27, 1892, in Neodesha, Kan., and at an early age came with her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. James David Steele, to Ponca City, where she received her education.
She was married to Bert Lee Evans in Ponca City and had continued to live here since that time. Evans was employed by the City of Ponca City.
Mrs. Evans was matron at the American Legion School and then worked in the East Junior High School Cafeteria. At the time of her retirement she was at the Senior High School Cafeteria.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Loyal Berean Sunday school class.
Surviving her are a son, J. D., Seattle, Wash.; a daughter, Mrs. Horace (Liberty) Pigg, Joplin, Mo.; a brother, Cam Steele, La Habra, Calif., six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, two brothers, and a sister.
