JOHN D. EVANS, 72, PIONEER, IS DEAD
CAME TO PONCA CITY AT OPENING OF CHEROKEE STRIP AREA
After a period of ill health and a major operation he underwent several days ago, John D. Evans, 72, 111 South Osage street, died at the home of his son, J. W. Evans, 429 South Osage, about 5 o'clock Monday morning.
Evans came to Oklahoma at the opening of the Cherokee outlet for settlement and homesteaded on a claim northeast of the city. For the past several years he had made his home in Ponca City. His wife died here 12 years ago Monday.
Suvivors are four sons, Bert L., Claude D., J. W., and Ernest A. Evans, all of Ponca City and six grandchildren, Paul, J.D., Leonard, Liberty, Geraldine and Joan Evans, also of Ponca City.
Funeral services are to be held Wednesday, according to the Downey Funeral Home.
