Claude D. Evans ~ ~ ~1889-1956

Rites Are Pending for Strip Pioneer
Claude D. Evans, 66-year-old Cherokee Strip pioneer, died early Friday morning at Ponca City Hospital after an illness of three years.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the E.M. Trout and Sons Funeral Home.
Evans was born Oct. 8 1889, at Olathe, Kan. He came to Ponca with his parents during the Cherokee Strip land run of 1893 and farmed near Ponca City until 1930 when he moved into the city.
He was married on March 21, 1916 to Ida Mae Burford.
Survivors include his wife of the home, 210 South Eighth; one daughter, Mrs. C.B. Smith Jr.; 716 North Osage; two brothers, J.W. Evans, 429 South Osage, and Ernest, Lake Road; three nieces, two nephews and two grandchildren.

Services Planned for Claude Evans
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of the E.M. Trout and Sons Funeral Home for Claude D. Evans, 66-year-old Cherokee Strip pioneer. The Rev. Chris Bachman of the Church of God will officiate, assisted by the Rev. W.D. Gilbert. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery.
He died early Friday morning at the Ponca City Hospital after an illness of three years.
