Zelma Irene (Sneed) Cauthon, resident of Ponca City, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2008. She was 77.
Zelma was born in Pawnee, Oklahoma to Tom and Lillian Lola (Brown) Sneed on May 20, 1931. She attended Lone Chimney Grade School and Pawnee High School.
She met Virgil (Sam) Cauthon in Pawnee, Oklahoma and they were married on February 21, 1948 by Reverend Ernest Hitt, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, in his home. The couple made their first home in Cleveland, Oklahoma and moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma in June, 1948 and to this union two children were born.
Zelma was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her children. She joined the Second Baptist Church in Ponca City December, 1952. She served in various positions in the church and First Baptist Churches in Newkirk, Pawhuska, Blackwell and Ponca City, Oklahoma. She was active in ministering to residents of Ponca City nursing homes for 27 years. She is a member of The Second Baptist Church in Ponca City.
She is survived by her loving husband, Virgil of the home; children, Robert Eugene Cauthon and his wife, Bertha Lou of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Linda Sue Huffaker and her husband, Wayne of Houston, Texas; brother, Everett Sneed of Ponca City; sister, Margie Phillips of Ponca City; grandchildren, Brandon Jai Wilkerson, Robert Samuel Cauthon, Charles Christopher Cauthon and Brooklyn Cauthon; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruth Helen Sharp and Cleola Maxine Anderson; and brother, Thomas Edward Sneed.
Casketbearers will be Thomas Skaggs, Cleo Anderson, Harold Ball, Carl Howe, James McDonald and Roger Kelle. Honorary casketbearers will be grandsons, Brandon, Sammy and Charlie.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Second Baptist Church with Reverend Ken Newport, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at IOOF Cemetery in Ponca City, Oklahoma under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Zelma's honor to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 N. Union, Suite 103, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601.
