Submitted by: Shirley Harlan
Mrs. Mary McCollum died at her home, May 29, 1905 in Newkirk, Okla.
Born Mary E. Murray, December 6, 1840, in North Carolina and was married to R. G. McCollum, July 18, 1862 and moved to Oklahoma in 1902. Her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Louisa Parker, survive her.
Her sufferings of that dread disease cancer were long and terrible but she bore them patiently and longed to end. She prayed constantly that she might be called to her eternal home.
She was a kind Christian woman, a devoted wife and mother; her noble character was admired by all. She became a member of the Baptist Church when she was nine years old.
She was also a member of the Woman's relief Corps which order attended her funeral in a body. Rev. Murray officiated and the body was laid to rest in the Newkirk Cemetery.
