Jan Suzanne Leatherman of Kildare, Oklahoma was born on January 26, 1945. She was baptized and worshiped at the Kildare Methodist church during her childhood. Her father was James Robert Leatherman (deceased) and mother is Mary Ruth Speck-Leatherman of Bartlesville.

Jan grew up on the family farm South of Newkirk, Oklahoma near both paternal, True & Anna (Christensen) Leatherman, & maternal, John & Hettie (Treadwell) Speck, grandparents. She attended Kildare school through 8th grade, graduated from Ponca City High School, and attended Oklahoma State University. Jan was employed by Owens & Illinois Canning Company for over 10 years, Humpy Dumpty grocery, Jack Bowker Ford, and Wal-Mart for several years. Jan also enjoyed going to the Horse races, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren, shopping for Antiques, Jan loved caring and sharing, which included fostering children. She had an unforgettable smile and unique wit that will be greatly missed by many.

Jan has 2 sons Mark W. Cook of Kildare, OK and Rep. David L. Cook and wife Diana of Globe, AZ, 5 grandchildren; Blake Cook of Ponca City, Angela Cook of Stillwater, Justin Cook of Ponca City, David L. Cook, Jr. and Maria Cook of Globe, AZ. Jan has 2 living sisters Christi Leatherman, husband John of Grapevine, TX and Tammy Stewart and husband Mike of Bartlesville. Jan has many nieces & nephews who loved her dearly as well.

Her older brother Jon Robert Leatherman and her loving father preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018 in the First United Methodist Church of Newkirk, OK with Pastor Dennis Wildman officiating. Interment will follow in the Newkirk cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends and relatives from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Arrangements are under the care of Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City.
