Elmer A. Horinek, 86, of Newkirk, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at Via Christi Village in Ponca City, Okla.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Newkirk. Interment will follow at Newkirk Cemetery.

The son of Anton Thomas and Frances (Vrbas) Horinek, Elmer was born Dec. 17, 1925, in Newkirk. He joined the United States Army Air Corps on Dec. 13, 1944. Elmer was a farmer and retired in 1991 after 44 years.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Rita; children, James Horinek, of Wellington, Mark Horinek, of Newkirk, Charlotte Horning, of Stillwater, Okla., Lisa Edens, of Ponca City, Okla., Diane Murray, of Magnolia, Texas, and Denise Greenwood, of Keller, Texas; sister, Trudy Frick, of Ponca City; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Anthony Horinek; parents; and siblings, Mary Schwemin, Rose Tubbs, Anna Vap, Elizabeth Vap, Alice Stanbaugh, Thomas J. Horinek, Bernard A. Horinek, Edward Victor Horinek and Richard Michael Horinek.

A memorial fund has been established for the Newkirk Education Foundation.

Contributions may be made through Eastman National Bank, P.O. Box 468, Newkirk, OK 74647.

Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk.

Mrs. Mary McCollum died at her home, May 29, 1905 in Newkirk, Okla.
