Ray Elmer Jackson~~~1892-1971

Jackson Rites at City Chapel

Ray Elmer Jackson, 79, retired housing inspector for the Federal Housing Administration, died at 11 p.m. Wednesday in Blackwell General Hospital.

He resided at 608 W. Bridge

Final rites have been set for 2 p.m. Friday in Roberts & Son chapel with Rev. Lew Davis, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating.

The body will lie in state at the funeral home until time for the service. The casket will not be opened at the funeral or afterward.

Burial will be in Prairie Lawn Cemetery at Wellington, Kansas. Masons will be pallbearers and Masonic graveside rites will be conducted.

Mr. Jackson was born Sept. 10, 1892 at Longmont, Colorado and was a World War I veteran in the Canadian army. He moved from Colorado at the age of 2 weeks, moving with his parents to Arkansas City, Kansas. He was raised in the Wellington, Arkansas City, and Newton, Kansas communities.

He married in 1918 and moved to Akron, Ohio living there until 1929. He returned to Kansas in 1929, residing at Wellington for the next 12 years and in Wichita for 13 years, then living in Topeka from 1954 to 1967.

During his active years he was employed by the FHA and the Soil Conservation Service.

He came to Blackwell in 1967. Mr. Jackson was a member of the Baptist Church and was a 32nd degree Mason in the Wichita Conatstory. He belonged to Albert Pike Lodge No.333 in Wichita and the Midian Temple at Wichita.

Surviving are his wife, Ina Maye, one daughter, Mrs. R.D. Walter of Wichita; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Carmen Jackson, and a stepson, Robert Jackson both of Blackwell; 6 grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Dell Stack of Agoura, California.
