DUMAS - Velma Rae, 83, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, in Amarillo.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Dumas Cemetery with Mike Smith, minister of Sixth and Meredith Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Rae was born in Elkhart, Kan., on Oct. 30, 1918, to Daniel Replogle Shuss and Grace P. Ewalt Shuss. She married A.W. Rae on April 13, 1937, in Amarillo.

They recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. The first three years of their marriage were spent in Rogers (Bell) before moving to Dumas in 1941.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Sixth and Meredith Church of Christ and a 50-year member of Chapter No. 653 Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband of Amarillo; two daughters, Nancy Lechner and husband, Don, of Tulia and Janice Levy and husband, Arthur, of Baton Rouge, La.; a son, Alan Rae and wife, Debbie, of Wichita Falls; two sisters, Pearl Taylor of Dumas and Martha Cator of Amarillo; a brother, Earl Shuss of Ponca City, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176; or a favorite charity.

The body will be available for viewing from 1 to 7 p.m. today. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. today.
