Paul was born in Niotaze, Kansas on Dec 16, 1944. He then lived in various places before settling in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He graduated from Ponca City High School in 1963. He worked for Groendyke Trucking and various other jobs before achieving a 32 year career as a pipefitter at Conoco-Phillips refinery.

Paul and Maureen Jordan Bates met at the Ponca City Post Office August 2005 and it was love at first sight and they were joined together November 2, 2005 in Branson Missouri she was the love of his life.

They spent their remaining time being together: listening to country music, dancing, going to bible studies, eating out with friends. Just being together was most important. Paul enjoyed wood working and made many plaques for his family and friends. He spent many hours in his garage fixing and tinkering and making anything people wanted.

His greatest love in life was his wife, Maureen. They traveled together (twice) to her homeland of England before he got sick. He loved his extended family although he loves all his grandchildren he has a special bond with Brooklyn and Brendon. Brooklyn was his baby doll and Brendon was his Bubba. They taught him so many things and as well he taught them. They were his heart. They even sat with him during chemo. Paul loved his Pastor and his church family.

Paul was preceded in death by his dad Bill Kurkendall, sister Audrey Daniels, brothers, Bert and Larry, and his best friend Richard Delaney.
