Verna Mae (Mayfield) Adams, long time resident of Ponca City, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012, at the Ponca City Medical Center at the age of 89.

Family will greet friends for visitation in the Trout Funeral Home Chapel from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm on Tuesday May 22, 2012. The graveside service will be held 3:00 pm at Longwood Cemetery with Chaplain Tom Howard, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Verna was born on May 17, 1923 to William W. Mayfield and Myrtle Mae (Lusk) Mayfield on a farm south of Nardin, Oklahoma. She was married to William A. Adams on November 26, 1945 in Winfield, Kansas. She was a homemaker and enjoyed storytelling and reading.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years William of Ponca City, one son Gene Adams and his wife Brenda of Ft. Worth, Texas, one daughter Barbara Ann Johnson and her husband Arthur of Drumright, Oklahoma, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Kenneth Mayfield and Willard Mayfield.
