Dwight A. Bruner, longtime Shidler area resident, passed November 26, 2015 at the Kansas Veterans Center in Winfield, Kansas. He was 90 years of age.
Dwight was born July 7, 1925 in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Frank N. Bruner and Olive Gertrude (Kimball) Bruner. He was a graduate of Ottawa High School. Dwight served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy, having served from 1942 until 1946. He married Elvie LeeOra Crain on July 7, 1946 in Russell, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Ottawa, moving to western Kansas in 1948 and to Shidler in 1956. The couple had been married 68 years at Mrs. Bruner's passing in March of this year.
Dwight had been employed as a Front Line Supervisor with Phillips Oil Company for 37 years, retiring on July 1, 1985. He was a longtime member of the Shidler First Christian Church and the VFW. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge for 40 years where he was a Past Master. His enjoyments were golf and bowling.
Dwight leaves behind his four children, Rex Bruner and wife Sherry, of Winfield, Kansas, Guy Bruner and wife Janice, of Eldon, Missouri, twin Eddie Bruner and his wife Jackie, of Choctaw, Oklahoma, and twin Becky Wentworth and husband Craig, of Fort Worth, Texas; ten grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife LeeOra; one brother, Gene Bruner and one daughter-in-law, Mary Bruner.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at the Grandview Cemetery in Kaw City with Rev. Doug Scott presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
