John Richard Smith of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday, February 21, 2013, in the Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 59 years.

John Richard Smith was born on November 21, 1953, in Blackwell to Jack and Lucille (Eakins) Smith. He grew up attending Nardin School before graduating from Blackwell High School in 1972. While in high school, he served as the F.F.A. chapter president. He furthered his education by attending Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa for a year. Following his education he began his farming operation. He married Jo Ann Pontius-Collyar on March 30, 1984, in Blackwell and they settled on a farm west of Blackwell. While farming he also worked for Pike Construction in Arkansas City, Kansas, on the BNSF Railroad crossings in Florida, as a heavy equipment operator for three years. He was a member of the Nardin United Methodist Church. He enjoyed reading and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Smith of Blackwell; a son, Kelly and Melissa Collyar of Norman, Oklahoma; a brother, Scott and Lisa Smith of Nardin; four sisters, Raye Ann and Nik Jones of Tulsa, Kay Lynn and Fritz Hatley of Tulsa, Carol and Mike Williams of Tulsa, and Sally and David Riesenberg of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Hannah, Ava and Karson Collyar of Norman; nieces and nephews, Kate, Carrie, Trevor and Kirk Jones, Troy and Vince Talley, John Scott, Brooke and Jamie Williams, Brittany, Jeffrey, John and Chayanne Riesenberg, and Ashley, Melissa, Megan, Owen, Jennifer and Jake Smith; and eleven great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lucille Smith; a daughter, Kristy Collyar; and a niece, Shay Ann Williams.

Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 27th in the First Baptist Church Blackwell, Oklahoma, with Rev. Robert Foos of the Jones United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Honorary Casketbearers will be Rick Adams and Verlin Turk.

Casketbearers will be Randy Paige, Larry McChristian, Danny Rowe, Richard North, Gary Young, David Young, Mike McClung and Joe Davis.

A memorial has been established in his honor with the Blackwell F.F.A. Chapter in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
