Clark Funeral Service

Funeral Services for Mr. Max Eugene Umsted, 81, of Ravia, Oklahoma (formerly of Bristow, Oklahoma) will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Clark Funeral Chapel in Tishomingo with Mr. Brent Matherly officiating. Interment will follow in the Ravia Cemetery, in Ravia, Oklahoma. Mr. Umsted passed away on Monday, November 23rd, in the Hillcrest Care Center in Tishomingo.

Max was born on November 15, 1928 in Wetumka, Oklahoma to Squire Curtis Umsted and Alma Lucille Ogle Umsted. He lived in Hughes County for several years, later moving to Creek County, where he met married Norma Jean Baker on December 16, 1956 in Bristow. Max worked as a driller in the oil filed in Texas for many years and returned to Bristow in 1983. He moved to Johnston County in October of this year to be near his daughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Quinton Cheesman; two brothers, Troy & A. W. and his sister, Dorothy Merriman.

Mr. Umsted is survived by his wife Norma Jean, of the home; his daughter, Sherry Cheesman of Ravia; his son, Don Umsted of Midland, Texas; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harry Joe Umsted of Irving, Texas and Ray Umsted of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Juanita Wilson of Houston and Melba Delgado of Dallas, Texas; also, other relatives and friends.
