Roy Elbert Owens, 76, of Kingston, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2005, at his residence. He was born Dec. 20, 1928, at Kenefic to the late Roy and Opal Shipman Owens.

Roy grew up in the Folsom and Kenefic area before moving to California where he lived for several years before moving back to Kenefic. He married Rosa Bell Cobb Sept. 17, 1999, in Calera.

Roy moved back to Kingston in 1999 where he lived for the rest of his life. He worked for Potter sausage for more than 30 years. Roy was a member of the Hopewell Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed dominoes, quail hunting and singing.

He is survived by his wife of the home; sons Royce G. Owens, Irving, Texas, and Jerry D. Owens, Kenefic; daughters Mary A. Allred and husband Chuck, Euless, Texas, and Glenda L. Newsome and husband Jack, Arlington, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brothers Lloyd Owens, Kenefic, David Owens, Tulsa; sisters Helen Reneau, Denton, Texas, and Ada Owens, Coleman.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Rose Whitmire and one sister, Fern Isenberg.

Family hour will be from 7-8 p.m. today at Watts Funeral Home, Kingston.

Services will be Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hopewell Freewill Baptist Church, Kenefic. Brother Leonard Cook and Jeremy Parham will officiate the services. Music will be arranged by Ada Owens, Leonard Cook, Rhonda Mason and Connie Howard.

Interment will be in the Condon Grove Cemetery in Milburn under the direction of Watts Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Kingston.

Casket bearers will be Jessie Dean, Leon Dean, Randy Tadlock, Jimmy Tadlock, John Isenberg and Kenny Owens.
