He saw the girl of his dreams and it was love at first sight. He told his brother Leonard that he was going to marry "that girl". Charles married the love of his life, the former Ruby Lee Hayes, January 6, 1949 in Durant. They celebrated fifty-eight plus years together.

Charles joined the Air Force and was stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He served as a clerk-typist. After leaving the service, he returned to Durant and went to work for Luper Transportation. Luper was purchased by Mid-Continent Freight Lines, which was purchased by American Freight. Charles believed in a strong work ethic, which was evident of his thirty-eight years working with the same permit; never leaving his actual job but staying as the company was purchased and even moving to Texas.
Charles loved to play dominoes and enjoyed many years of playing on north second in the "Domino Hall" with his many friends, often times walking across to Red's to get a "Red Top Stew". He loved crossword puzzles, old western movies, playing solitaire, country and western music, OU football and the Dallas Cowboys.

Charles was a kind and gentle man with a great deal of respect for everyone. He taught his sons to have great respect for their mother and women in general.

He is survived by his wife Ruby Lee, daughters:
Linda Edelen and husband, Eddie of Port Arthur, Texas; Sherry Anderson and husband, Mike of Durant, Robin Postier and husband Paul of Tulsa, Oklahoma, son: Charles E. Horton, Jr. and wife Ruth of The Colony, Texas "One of the kids" and sister in law, Bonnie Reagan of Durant, sister-in-Law, Ruby D. Horton of Waxahachie, Texas. fourteen grandchildren: Michael, Dustin & Alicia Edelen, Russell Anderson, Julie Brown, Jason & Joshua Bannowsky, Mark Connell, Cassie Thompson, Ryan & Micah Horton, Autumn Erwin, Devin Horton, & Rustin Postier.
Twenty six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Leonard A. Horton, Jr. sister, Dorothy L. Powell; son, David L. Horton and grand daughter, Paula J. Marshall.

Charles was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. He enjoyed life and said he didn't need anything but his "Baby". He was strong in his Faith and knew where he was going.
Coffey-Murray Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
