Funeral for Eddie Gaye Garrett, 78, Lawton, will be Saturday, July 18th, 2015 at 1pm in the Whinery-Huddleston Chapel, with Harley Davidson, minister, Western Hills Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Cemetery, north of Altus, under direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service. Mrs. Garrett died Saturday, July 11, 2015 in Lawton at her home at McMahon-Tomlinson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born February 21, 1937 in Hollis, OK to Jewel and Edgar McArthur. She attended Hollis Schools growing up, and graduated from Hollis High School in 1955. While there, she was an all-state basketball player and a drum majorette. Out of high school, she completed one year of nurses training at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, and later, she achieved her Associates Degree in Arts and Sciences from Western Oklahoma State College. She married Robert Lynn Garrett, "the love of her life," in Hollis in 1956. The couple had three children: Gaye Lynn, Lori, and Lance, and they made their home in Altus. They centered their lives around family and friends. She was an active member of the Thomas Street Church of Christ for over 30 years. After raising children in Altus, she spent most of her professional life working at the Jackson County Abstract Office. In her retirement years, she traveled the country as a trade show sales person. She had a true talent in selling that she had not realized before, and was among the top salesperson in her company for many years. As she travelled, she enjoyed visiting many of her relatives and friends across the country. Family, friends, and the Lord were Gaye's passion and delight. She enjoyed reading, writing, and watching her grandkids' sporting and school activities. In her later years in Lawton, she was a faithful member of the Western Hills Church of Christ. In her last year at the nursing center she was always looking to help someone with needs. She was a God-fearing faithful Christian who lived her life in service to the Lord.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Lynn Garrett; and sister, June Stunik.
Survivors include three children: Gaye Lynn Reinke and husband Jeff of Lawton; Lori Holt and husband Kenny of Altus; Lance Garrett and wife Emily of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren: Holly Frantz and husband Dr. Robby Frantz of Norman; Sunny Dedmon of Plano; Will Reinke of Lawton; Lacy Reinke of Moore; Tyler Abway of Altus; Taylor Winters of San Diego; Branagh, Lachlan, and Gilda Garrett of Oklahoma City; three great-granddaughters, Mollie, Allison, and Preslie Frantz of Norman.
