Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Paramount Baptist Church with Dr. Gil Lain and the Rev. F.M. Byford, of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St.
Mr. Young was born in 1914 in Arlie to Ferd and Arena Young. He married Edra Young on Dec. 31, 1938, in Hollis, Okla. He then moved to Amarillo in 1940 from Hollis.
He grew up in Oklahoma. He was a member of Paramount Baptist Church, Virgil Ballengee Men's Bible Class and was an active volunteer for many years with the Texas Special Olympics.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Local Railroad Engineers and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Cole and Iola Brawley; and a brother, Raymond Young.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sharon Donnell of Lubbock; a son, Jerry Young of Dallas; two brothers, Otis Young of Riverside, Calif., and Eugene Young of Amarillo; two sisters, Ella Auldridge and Ozella Sutton, both of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Ragan Young of Dallas and Dan Donnell and Ann Swain, both of Lubbock; and a great-grandchild, Will Swain of Lubbock.
The family suggests memorials be to Paramount Baptist Church library fund; Criswell College, 4010 Gaston Ave., Dallas, TX 75246; or local Special Olympics.
