LUBBOCK - Gaylen D. Shelby, 61, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, in Clarendon.
Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Friday, May 31, in Trinity Church with the Rev. Paul Jantzen, pastor emeritus, officiating. Burial was in City of Lubbock Cemetery by White Funeral Home.
Mr. Shelby was born March 10, 1941, in Hollis, Okla, to Vertner A. Shelby and Gay Daniel Shelby. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1959 and attended Amarillo College and West Texas State University.
He moved to Lubbock from Houston in 1975. He married Letitia Ann Thomas on Dec. 31, 1965, in Louisville, Ga. He was a railroad engineer for BNSF for 30 years.
He was a member of United Transportation Union, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, BNSF Safety Committee and Trinity Church. He was a veteran of the Army.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Gay Shelby of Amarillo; a son, Stephen D. Shelby and wife, Jaana, of Aijila, Finland; a daughter, Sheryl Gonzales and husband, Tony, of Lubbock; a sister, Vicki Ward of Amarillo; and seven grandchildren, Anna, Amanda, Ellen, Ester and Isaiah Shelby, and Andrew and Gabriel Gonzales.
The family suggests memorials be to Trinity Christian Schools or Trinity Church Missions, 7002 Canton Ave., Lubbock, TX 79413.
