Hazel Sadler Downing

Hazel (Sadler) Downing, 90, died at Hospice of East Texas Homeplace in Tyler, Texas. She was born Sept. 17, 1913, to Gearld C. and Ellen (Hagar) Lee in Mangum. She married Lonnie Alton Sadler. Lonnie preceded her in death in 1985. In her youth she picked cotton and worked at the movie theater and laundry. Later in life she met and married Lawrence Thomas Downing on Nov. 24, 1993, in DeQueen, Ark. They later moved to Big Sandy, Texas. During her retirement she belonged to the quilting club. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Richard Arlen Sadler, Jerry Wayne Sadler and her first husband, Lonnie Sadler. Survivors include her husband Lawrence Downing; a stepdaughter, Gladys Halford; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services for Downing will be held at Greer Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2004. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. The Rev. Ed Houston will officiate. Greer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
