Jan Scott Caffey, 85, died at home May 4, 2013, from brain cancer. She was born February 23, 1928, in Mangum, to Jewett Scott Sr. and Gladys Wicker Scott. Jan graduated from Mangum High School in 1946 and worked at the phone company in Mangum.

On September 17, 1949, she married James William Caffey, also of Mangum, and worked at the phone company in Norman while he completed his studies at the University of Oklahoma. They reared three children while living in several cities in Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. She was an avid reader and bridge player and also enjoyed gardening and quilting. With her ready smile, outgoing nature, positive attitude and sense of humor, she made friends wherever she went. Over the years she was a Scout leader and community volunteer in various organizations, as well as an election worker in Cleveland County and local official in the 1970 U.S. Census.

After her children were grown, Jan spent 27 years in Tulsa, where she belonged to Forest Creek Garden Club, SPE Wives and a quilt guild.
In 2004, after the deaths of her husband and of her son, William Scott Caffey, Jan moved to Mangum, where she renewed old ties, made new friends and lived some of the most contented years of her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mangum, Sorosis Study Club and several bridge groups.

Jan is survived by her daughters, Christine Caffey of Oklahoma City and Jan Elizabeth Caffey of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandsons, Chuck Caffey and Russell Caffey (and wife Shea) of Jacksonville, Florida; a great-grandson, Von Caffey, and a great-granddaughter, Sloan Caffey, of Jacksonville; her brother, Jewett Scott Jr. of Mangum; and her sisters, Marie Brandt of Bethany, Oklahoma; Judy Smith of Houston; and Jill Talley of Yukon, Oklahoma.

Funeral services for Jan Caffey will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Marsha Purtell officiating.

Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.

The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, from 5 until 6 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the Margaret Carder Library, 201 West Lincoln, Mangum, OK 73554; Mangum Main Street, 119 East Jefferson, Mangum, OK 73554; or First United Methodist Church Playground, P.O.
