Funeral service for James E. Gassaway, age 88, of Chickasha is pending with the McRay Funeral
Home.
James was born on August 5, 1917, in Granite, Oklahoma. He died on October 30, 2005 at his home
in Chickasha.
Funeral service for James E. Gassaway, age 88, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m.
on Thursday, November 3, 2005, in the First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Barbara Hunt will
officiate.
James E. Gassaway was born, the son of Thomas Marvin Gassaway and Dora Belle Carpenter Gassaway,
on August 5, 1917, in Granite, Oklahoma. He died on October 30, 2005, at his home in Chickasha.
Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay
Funeral Home.

James E. Gassaway was born the son of Thomas Marvin Glassaway and Dora Belle Carpenter Gassaway,
on August 5, 1917, in Granite, Oklahoma. He died on October 30, 2005, in Chickasha.
He married Mary Elizabeth Stribling on December 21, 1949, in Oklahoma City.
James grew up in Chickasha and graduated from Chickasha High School. He entered the United States
Army Air Corp during World War II serving in Iow Jima and other areas in the Pacific Theater.
After the war, he attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a bachelor and a masters
degree in agronomy. James served on the research staff at Oklahoma State University and Texas A & M. He worked for the U.S. Bortax in their chemical division in Oklahoma City and Dallas. James later worked for the Department of Agriculture retiring in 1982. After retiring, he became active in the Antique Auto Club.
James was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as an elder. He was active
and a founding organizer of Santa's Workshop.
Preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Joy Bogrette, Genevieve Hawkins, and Venita
Caldwell, one brother, Charles Gassaway, and one son Tommy Warren Gassaway.
Survivors include: wife: Mary Elizabeth Gassaway of the home; daughter: Jane Ann Myers of
Chickasha; son & wife: Dr. Joe Gassaway & Linda of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; daughter & husband:
Susan Harris & Rex of Custer, South Dakota; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under direction of the McRay Funeral Home. Condolences

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
