Celebration of life service for Elvin Edward Zeman is 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at Medford First United Methodist Church, with Pastor David Jenkins officiating. Burial follows at Rosemound Cemetery, with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Medford. Viewing is 11 a.m.-6 p.m. today, Sept. 21, 2016, with the family present 3-5 p.m. Condolences may be made at www.LanmanMemorials.com.

Elvin was born on Jan. 21, 1931, on the family farm in Grant County, Medford. He was the first of two children born to Edward Henry Zeman and Ella Anna (Skarkey) Zeman. He went home to be with his Lord Monday, Sept. 19, 2016.

He was a lifelong resident of Medford, graduating from Medford High School in 1950. He attended Northern Oklahoma College and graduated from, Phillips University, Enid with a bachelor's degree.

On August 4, 1952, Elvin and Darla "June" Horne were married in Enid, and three children were born to this union.

Elvin served in the U.S. Army Artillery from 1952 until 1954, in Germany, during the Korean War.

He farmed the family farm for seventy plus years. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service from August 1958, until his retirement in 2000, serving as Postmaster at Medford from August 1971 to January 2000.

He was the Assistant Fire Chief and an EMT for twenty plus years. Elvin worked for Grant County District 2; the city of Medford Golf Course; was a janitor for First National Bank and Bank 7 for thirty plus years; janitor for the Grant County Abstract and a National Weather Bureau Observer for thirty years.

Elvin was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge in Enid, a member of Medford First United Methodist Church, a member of the American Legion and Lifetime Member of the V.F.W. He enjoyed farming, gardening, hunting, fishing and most of all spending time with his family.

Elvin is survived by his wife, June Zeman, of Medford; son, Steve Zeman and Stacy Hackworth; grandson, Douglas Zeman; granddaughter, Sarah Kretchmar; great-grandson, Haden Kretchmar; son-in-law, Steve Bennett; all of Medford; one brother, Melvin Zeman (Betty); half-brother, Ray Hunter (Linda); half sister, Mary Phillips (Joe), all of Arkansas City, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Shelley Zeman and Teresa Bennett; and one half-brother, Jim Hunter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Medford Ambulance or First United Methodist Church of Medford, through the funeral home.
