Rosemound Cemetery


MEDFORD — Funeral service for Lloyd D. Schmitz, 98, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at Medford United Methodist Church, with Rev. Linda Grounds officiating.

Burial will follow in Rosemound Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home Inc. of Medford.

Viewing will be 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. today. Memories may be shared at www.lanman memorials.com.

Lloyd was born July 24, 1914, to August Schmitz and Flora Hoeman Schmitz and passed from this life on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at Community Health Center in Wakita.

He married Maggie Mills in May 1937, and she passed away June 4, 1959. Lloyd then married Arleen Hajek in 1963. Arleen passed away April 22, 2001.

Lloyd lived his life in the Medford area and was a farmer and sheep shearer until he retired. He was a member of Medford United Methodist Church.

Lloyd loved to travel and had visited all states in the union, including Alaska and Hawaii. He loved to fish and then to eat his catch. Lloyd enjoyed square dancing.

He was preceded in death by both wives; son, Darrell Schmitz; an infant sister; parents, August and Flora Hoeman Schmitz; sister, Laverna Aebi; and brother, Harold Schmitz.

Survivors include three sons, Monty Schmitz and wife Margaret of Oxford, Kan., Clarke Schmitz and wife Janice of Medford, and Jim Hajek and wife Wilma of Renfro; daughter-in-law, Sheryl Schmitz of Medford; grandchildren, Tony Schmitz and wife Christine, Jonathan Schmitz, Brenda Kay Turner and husband Eric, Brent Schmitz and wife Suzan, Michele Woodson and Mike Glenn, Misty Aird and husband Matt, Sandy Parsons and husband Bill and Amy Hajek; 18 great-grandchildren; special friend, Vi Friesen of Medford; special caregiver, Dorothy Powell; many other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be given to Wakita Community Health Center, Hospice Circle of Love or Medford United Methodist Church through the funeral home.
