Celebration of life services for Gary Robert Schmitz, 74, Medford, will be held on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in the 1st Methodist Church of Medford with Pastor David Jenkins officiating. Committal prayers and interment will be held at Rosemound Cemetery under the kind guidance of the Stittsworth Funeral Service, Medford. Military rites will be conducted by the Silver Talon Honor Guard with Vance Air Force Base.

Gary was born on October 22, 1942 in Enid, the son of Robert Maddy and Naomi “Pat” Rose Downing Schmitz, and passed away peacefully on May 7, 2017 in Enid. Gary Schmitz and his twin sister were born while their father fought in WWII. He was raised on the family farm and attended Medford Public Schools. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1964 and he was stationed in Vietnam and Thailand and worked as a Jet Aircraft Mechanic Tech . Upon completion of his military service he worked at Cessna in Wichita, KS. In 1969 Gary returned to Medford, Oklahoma to take over the family farm when his father died. In addition to his farming duties he worked at and eventually became the manager of the Clyde CO-OP Elevator in Medford, Oklahoma.

Gary is survived by his mother Pat Schmitz of Medford, twin sister Linda Freeman of Enid, wife Brenda of Medford, sons Mark and wife Patti of Broken Arrow, Phillip and wife Debbie of Sand Springs, and Lance and wife Ashley of Oklahoma City, and 7 grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew.

The family has selected memorial contributions be made payable to the Medford School Scholarship Fund.
