The funeral for Lottie Carroll Reed, 93, of Inola, formerly of Medford, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at Hills-Ely Funeral Home Chapel, Medford. The Rev. Craig VanDeburgh will officiate. Burial will be in Rosemound Cemetery, Medford.

She was born Oct. 16, 1915, on the family farm northwest of Medford to Freemont and Fannie Jilek Quigley and died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at Claremore Regional Hospital, Claremore.

She was a graduate of Medford High School and attended business courses at Tonkawa Junior College.

She married Vernon Leroy Reed Aug. 11, 1940, in Jefferson. She was a homemaker and accompanied her husband from post to post during World War II. She often worked in the post exchange.

Surviving are her husband, Leroy, of the home; one son, Larry Reed of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Lorita Wilks of Inola; two sisters, Evelyn Dahlem of Enid and Ruth Misak of Wichita, Kan.; two grandsons; one stepgranddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

The funeral for Vernon Leroy Reed, 91, of Claremore, formerly of Medford, will be 2 p.m. Frid-ay, Aug. 14, 2009, at First Christian Church, Medford. The Rev. Craig VanDeburgh will officiate. Burial will be in Rosemound Cemetery, Medford, with military honors conducted by the Army. Arrangements are by Hills-Ely Funeral Home, Medford. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home with the family present from 6:30-8 p.m.

He was born Oct. 21, 1917, on a farm northeast of Medford to Vernon and Dollie Kier Reed and died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at the Veterans Center in Claremore.

He graduated from Medford High School in 1935 and earned his bachelor degree from Northwestern State College, Alva, and master's degree from Phillips University in Enid.

He married Lottie Carroll Quigley Aug. 11, 1940, in Jefferson.

He began his teaching career in Fairview. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II, posting in Wichita Falls, Texas; Alexandria, La.; Miami, Fla.; Dover, Delaware; and Honolulu, Hawaii.

Following his discharge, he resumed his teaching career, holding positions in Oilton, Fairview, Covington, North Enid and twice in Garber.

He returned to Medford in 1960, where he was selected Grant County Teacher of the Year for 1969. He also coached and was a basketball and football official. He ran the clocks at basketball and football games in Medford for decades.

He retired from teaching in 1980, after 38 years, and began a lawn maintenance service and worked many summers as a harvest hand.

He was a member of Medford First Christian Church, where he served as deacon and elder.

He and his wife, Lottie, later moved to Village on the Park, an independent retirement community in Oklahoma City. They relocated to Inola in September 2008. In February 2009, he moved to Claremore Veterans Center.

Surviving are one son, Larry Reed of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Lorita Jo Wilks of Inola; two grandsons; one stepgranddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lottie, one brother and one sister.
