Pond Creek Cemetery



The funeral for Jimmy D. Bowling, 68, of Pond Creek, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Pond Creek School Auditorium. The Rev. Ronnie Hopkins will officiate. Burial will be in Pond Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek.

He was born Oct. 24, 1936, in St. Louis, to William Earnest and Irene Griffith Bowling, and died Monday, July 18, 2005, at his home in Pond Creek.

He graduated from Pryor High School in 1954 and attended Eastern Oklahoma College at Wilburton for two years. He served in the Army in Vietnam and Germany from 1956 to 1971 as an sergeant. He received the Purple Heart. He married Emma Dillon on July 12, 1972, and they settled in Pond Creek. He worked at the Farmers Grain Co. as an elevator operator. He also worked in the fertilizer plant until his retirement May 8, 1999.

He was a member of First Christian Church, American Legion, Pond Creek Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, AF -- AM 125 Masonic Lodge, Grant County fairboard and Northwest District fairboard.

Surviving are his wife, Emma, of the home; brothers, Lee-Roy of Rose, Tommy Edward of Temple, Texas, Bobbie G. of Oklahoma City, Charles Franklin of Pryor, and Billy Joe of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; two sisters, Bertha Wright of Derby, Kan., and Mary Lee Howell of Ardmore.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Jim Bowling FFA Scholarship Fund.
