New Home Cemetery


Funeral services for Virginia R. Messenger, 84, of Enid, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hillsdale Bible Church with Rev. James Porterfield and Rev. Ron Olson officiating. Burial will follow in New Home Cemetery, Nash, with Rev. Tom Bonine, PHD. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

She was born Sept. 19, 1922, in Sumner County, near Wellington, Kan., to Edward and Nellie (Zoll) Babcock and died Sunday, May 20, 2007, in Enid.

She graduated from Wellington High School and graduated from William Newton Memorial Hospital with an RN degree. Due to Rheumatic Fever, she could not enlist into the Army, but worked at an Army hospital in Tucson, Ariz., and that is where she met Arthur Roy Messenger.

Virginia married Arthur Roy Messenger Feb. 18, 1949, in Tucson and he passed away Feb. 9, 1955.

Virginia worked in hospitals in South Dakota and Arizona and as a private duty nurse, office nurse for Dr. John McIntyre.

She was a member of Hillsdale Bible Church where she was active in Sunday school and a member of Hillsdale Ladies Missionary Society. She also was an active participant of the BYF of the Cedar Ridge Wesleyan Church.

Virginia is survived by her children, Jay and his wife Eileen Messenger of Hillsdale, Nelda Turner and her husband Dale of Tulsa, and Clarence and his wife Anita Messenger of Bismark, Ark.; eight grandchildren, Susan, Aaron, Andrea and Jonathan Messenger, Natalie and her husband Dan Cummings, Dustin Turner and his wife Allison, Justin Messenger, and Cody Messenger and his wife Jill; seven great-grandchildren, Kyler, Noah, Elijah, Alexa, Angelica, Gabriel and Michael.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, two brothers and husband.

Memorials may be given to Hillsdale Bible Church, Hillsdale Christian School or Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, cancer division, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
