Donna Fern Cox Shire
© Enid News and Eagle

Submitted by: Jo Aguirre

Donna Fern Cox was born Sept. 18, 1931, in Anthony, Kan., to Marion Daniel (Ted) and Iola Fern Woods, and entered into heaven Dec. 9, 2015, at her home with her husband by her side.

She was united in marriage to Wilfred (Fred) Shire on Jan. 9, 1949, in Jefferson, Okla.

They lived northwest of Pond Creek where Fred farmed and Donna was a homemaker. To this union four boys were born, Steven, Roger, Douglas and Daniel.

When the boys were in school, Donna went to beauty school. She then owned and operated a beauty shop in Pond Creek for many years.

After closing the beauty shop, she continued to travel to nursing homes and ladies’ homes in the area, doing hair and taking care of those who needed help.

Donna Fern was known far and wide for her cooking skills. It didn’t matter the time of day you entered her home, there was always something cooking! She would gladly feed anyone at any time!

She is survived by her husband, Fred, of the home; sons Steve (Deb) Shire of Enid, Roger Shire of Medford, Doug (Sam) Shire of Lamont and Danny of Pond Creek; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, one brother Larry (Judy) of Andover, Kan., and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Delores and Wanda.

Visitation will be 5:30-7 p.m. today, Dec. 11, 2015, at Wilson Funeral Home in Pond Creek.

Funeral services will be officiated by the Rev. George Lupton at the Christian Church in Pond Creek at 2 p.m. Saturday Dec. 12, 2015.

Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery.
